The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vitro probiotic properties of Pediococcus pentosaceus CECT 8330 and Bifidobacterium longum CECT 7894 and their suitability as candidates for treating infantile excessive crying syndrome.

Main Research Findings:

B. longum CECT 7894 markedly inhibits the growth of E. aerogenes which has been reported to be significantly increased in infants with colic and shows a broad spectrum inhibitory activity against pathogens. B. longum CECT 7894 does not produce gas and has potential anti-microbial capacity.
